A community hero in Netherfield got a lovely surprise after a fun day held by Darvel Down Area Residents Association.

Ron White, Chair of the DDARA for the past 3 years, was handed vouchers worth £550.00 when he arrived at the end of the event – as organisers had decided to donate all the day’s proceeds to him!

Mandy Haines of the DDARA said “It was an absolutely fabulous day – we had a raffle, bouncy castle, teddy bears, kids races, a Bar B Cue and disco in the evening. It has always been to raise money for the Association but this year the money went to Ron as he has just stepped down as Chair and he and his wife Sylv have worked so hard. They work tirelessly and open their door to everybody. We crowned them the King and Queen of the day and then gave them the vouchers – Ron was very, very embarrassed”

Quiz Night

We held a quiz night at the White Hart on Tuesday 26 July as a means to thank Jemma Wray for her support during the setting up of the DDARA and until she was promoted by AirS to greater things.

Jemma is fulfilling a deeply held wish to work in a far off country; Cambodia has fallen her way, where she will be starting work shortly. She is gong with husband, Simon and their two children. We wish them all a happy and successful time during the two years stay. Needless to say, we look forward to their return.

Jemma was presented with a bouquet of flowers at the end of the evening.

Thanks are due to Angie, John and the staff for providing us with
excellent meals and service. Approximately 35 people took part in a deftly presented quiz. The net profit for the night was £55-92 and this will be donated to a charity to be chosen at the next committee meeting.
