Netherfield Breakaway Group
16th June 2005. We met at Netherfield Village Hall and had a very
entertaining hour with Mrs. Biron of the National Trust. She showed us
slides of the
actress Ellen Terry, and of
her home Smallhythe Place, and many pictures of Ellen, her
husband, lovers, and her
children. Mrs. Biron facts and anecdotes are very amusing and
informative and she brought
the whole family to life.
21st July 2005 Saw us at the
Village Hall for our Summer Tea Party. A very successful Bring and Buy
Table was run by Marion Williams and Juliet Vane. Elaine Heaseman
and Val Harding produced a grand selection of raffle prizes.
Strawberries and Cream
were offered to Members with
their tea and biscuits. Meanwhile Ruby entertained us with her
excellent and amusing poems.
July is the month in which
we try to raise some money to boost our funds, and as usual our Members
were very generous. A sad note at our Meeting was the news that a
founder Member and ex-Treasurer Sheila
Kippax had died. Sheila will
be sadly missed and our sympathies were sent to her son and daughter.
In September we are off on
an outing to Leeds Castle, regretfully the coach is fully booked, and
we look
forward to a lovely day.
Our next Meeting in the
Village Hall is on Thursday 20th October 2005 at 3.00pm. Mrs Oat
Roberts is coming to tell us some of the history and happenings at
Beauport Park. Visitors and new Members are very welcome.
